OK, this is where some people get confused for no reason. I am hoping to really simplify the subject of "keywords" for you.
What the heck is a keyword, why is it important, and how do you find good ones?
Without being technical (I know we all hate over-complicating things), a keyword is simple something that a person types in when doing a search in Google, Yahoo, Bing or another search engine.
Keywords are important because depending on the type of keyword someone types into a search, they are either a qualified or unqualified customer. So how do you qualify a keyword before you spend time writing an article about it?
PUT YOURSELF IN YOUR CUSTOMERS' SHOES!
Fill in the following blanks.
If I was looking to ______________, I would probably do a search like _____________ in Google.
Here are a couple of examples:
If I was looking to lose weight before summer, I would probably search for something like "ways to lose weight quickly" in Google.
If I was looking to clear up my acne, I would probably search for somethine like "how to get rid of pimples" in Google
So this is your first step with your keyword research. Think of search terms by putting yourself in your customers shoes. You should easily be able to come up with at least 5 search terms for each of the 3 "interests" you wrote down from the last lesson.
If not, I have another easy way for you to come up with "qualified" keywords.
Step 1: Type a broad keyword in to the Google Keyword Tool.
